Sun Volt Engineering was founded by my late father Ken DeVore in 1980 in Moab, Utah. My father had an engineering background, a welding business and a river running business. He had a passion for solar and helped write some of the codes used today. His love for fabrication in the welding business helped in the solar industry as at that time there were not pre fabricated mounting hardware.
My mom Pam, was always helping with each project from cooking meals, pulling wire, installing solar modules to battery connections. Many people to this day still talk about my mom and dad along with their dog that was always with them.
Ken loved the outdoors, river running, camping, and going down every dirt road there was to see where it went. He believed if there was a fork in the road you should take both!
Our family history is very rich and something we are very proud of. My great granddad had an automotive shop in Van Nuys, CA. when there were still dirt roads and worked on model A's & T's. He built the tools to build his home, shop, furniture, rock & copper work. He was a true craftsman.
My grandad was an architect for Beverly Hills, was in the Army, loved building things out of wood and obviously had an eye for design.
My grandmother had the same design and craftsmanship as she made hand laid maps of San Diego. She loved people and advertising for their businesses.
All of this has been passed on to me, Donn DeVore, and runs deep in my blood. I am the second generation in the solar business. I have done many projects with my dad either together or combined with my other company Donn's Boat Shop, Inc. You can see more of my history and other projects at www.donnsboatshop.com
I am very proud to continue the family values, morals, standards, history and traditions. I miss my father very much, it is hard to go on without him but this is a story that needs told and continued.
I went to school by boat then had to walk 2.5 miles uphill in the dirt to a one room school house. I became a double engineer (electrical & mechanical), a master technician (in all marine models), a master welder (aluminum & steel) a coast guard captain, EMT, a river runner and obviously a solar engineer, designer, installer and business owner.
